July 10, 2013 - I found this a slightly disappointing wine, with a distinctly confused sense of identity. The nose offered only rather muted graphite, cassis, and leafy notes characteristic of Loire Cab Franc, but combined with a heavy jammy red fruit base . This cooked jammy character persisted through to the palate, and overwhelmed the rather low acidity. Which resulted in the wine losing the essential refreshing bite of a youthful Chinon. Consumed on a hot summer's day, it required to be served " tres, tres frais" in order to maintain the freshness. Stoppered overnight , a second tasting resulted in a slightly better experience with a better defined nose , but still the rather flat red fruit jammy palate. Apparently is the result of project by a New Zealand MW to create a Chinon with an international appeal. He seems to have lost the essential freshness of a Loire red , in the attempt to soften the leafy and sometimes astringent chacter of the fruit. Neede more acidity, and more tannin to give this wine backbone ! Drink now - it won't benefit rom keeping. However , it was a perfectly pleasant accompaniment to a medium rare steak, and vegetable ragout! Needs to be chilled !

May 3, 2013 - Sonoma Trip; 5/3/2013-5/6/2013 (Sonoma County, CA): Pale purple; nose of cherry red fruits, high toned acid, slight green but not stemmy; palate is light-medium bodied, high acid, medium tannin, good red fruit; short-med finish. Good for the price, but not a particularly unique wines. I would buy a bottle or two for everyday wines. 87-88
