March 17, 2017 - Very lean and bright- the viognier really shines through on this wine. Flavors of black fruits, herbs, and earth- well balanced with a firm feel in the mouth- this wine is nowhere near close to being done, infact I'd say it's just entering middle age. Aromas of juicy dark fruits/bramble, sage brush, and wet granite. Just a really well done wine.

January 8, 2013 - A wine club only Syrah release. And according to website the last vintage from this vineyard.

A blend of 83% syrah and 17% Viognier. This is in the style of Cote Rotie, although to my surprise its not envoked anywhere.
Cote Rotie can be 0-20% Viognier. Generally most are 0-10% - only have I ever encountered one thats 20....so 17% is high.
But one can't really tell a huge difference compared to similar wines with lesser amounts.
13.7 % alc is a bit higher than Cote Rotie, but in balance. I do have to chuckle at domestic syrahs claiming Cote Rotie like at 15.5%...

To The Eye: a modest purple, light does pas through
One The Nose: less floral than would expect for a big dollop of Viognier. Ripe blackfruit, honeysuckle, hint of smoked meats.
In The Mouth: Good acidity, fresh. Modest dark fruit up front, good structure and some tannins mid palate and drying finish.
Quite drinkable now, especially paired with food, but I'd love to let a few bottles lay for 6-18 months to let gain more complexity, as it likely will. I like this wine, but my personal palate liked the 2009 TSyrah "Le Pousseur" even more.

You will have to join the BDV wine club to get one of these puppies, sorry!
