Community Tasting Notes 5

October 14, 2015 - I was amazed at how much earth, tobacco ash, and other dirt-related funky notes were present in this. It really does cover the red fruit a fair amount. As someone who nearly always prefers those sorts of earthy notes to boisterous fruit, this was pretty close to my limit on the fruit-earth scale. That said, the green bell pepper notes here, on the other hand, are present but pretty minimal. Nice stuff for the price and definitely interesting. Sometimes a bit more interesting than pleasurable.

December 9, 2014 - Layers of earth and mud with just enough black and red fruit.

June 5, 2014 - PnP. Smells like fresh and juicy cherries and berries, black tea, baked earth, and a mild dose of green plant stems; quite nice right out of the bottle. On the palate, only starting to open up with an hour of air, and seems like it needs more - nebulous blue and black fruit, saline mineral earth, firm but very smooth tannins, and some well integrated vine/sapling that develops in a fairly long finish along with lingering minerality and a touch of smoke. Tasty, but PnP was a bad idea; looking forward to day 2.

Day 2: Terrific herbaceous pungency on the nose; fresh and pure. Quite a bit more fruit forward on the palate; in fact, the fruit comes across as a bit overripe and dominant. Tasty, but primary, and doesn't live up to the nose. Maybe it needs more time in the bottle.

January 24, 2014 - Great with a charcuterie board. A little spice that pairs well with salami or spicy meat

September 8, 2013 - Great funk and concentrated tobacco-tinged black fruits and soil, overall quite clean, though, and very pure. Soft and approachable, and very well-balanced. This is an excellent one for now or the next 10 years.
