Community Tasting Notes 4

November 9, 2014 - Over the past 6 months this has deepened in color so it now appears as a deep, rich straw with an intense, near-gold expression. The profile, however, is thankfully much like it was then with, “A ripe nose of apple, baked apple with cinnamon and spice, honey, lime, citrus, as well as a yeasty and biscuity quality. Those intense, and distinct notes carry over to the palate with added notes of nutmeg, coconut and yeasty sediments. The mouthfeel is huge.” Several people at the table have never had - and enjoyed - a chardonnay like this before. The wine throws huge slabs of tartrates that look like flat worm (but taste much better). 14.9% alc. With butter poached salmon in lobster stock with Parisian gnocchi by Ian Boden for DDB’s 50th birthday. (Karen Frank, Butch and Lynne Smiley, Doug and Marnie Sheets and Leslie Boden around the table. And then again wtih DDB’s solo ravioli (and shrimp) dish later in the week. Highly Recommended.

April 24, 2014 - A beautiful pale straw/golden intensely yellow color. A ripe nose of apple, baked apple with cinnamon and spice, honey, lime, citrus, as well as a yeasty and biscuity quality. Those intense, and distinct notes carry over to the palate with added notes of nutmeg, coconut and yeasty sediments. The mouthfeel is huge. The Spousal Unit proclaims it “big, big, so big.” (And I’m suddenly feeling a tad inadequate.) But the wine is in fact big. It’s true; it’s true. The wine also throws tartrates and lees. 14.9% alc. With roast pork. Highly Recommended.

June 8, 2013 - If the Sierra Mar was delicious, then this is simply over the top good. Deeper yellow than the Sierra Mar with more lemon custard, more cream, more vanilla and more apple pie. Add to that baking spices and coconut rolled in a creamy mouthfeel and perhaps you may get a hint of what this wine is about. My favorite Loring Chard extant. 14.9% alc. With seared scallops in a sun-dried tomato cream sauce. Highly Recommended.

February 25, 2013 - Pretty much a rich ripe fruit bomb if that's your mood. Tropical fruit, some pear and honey. Deep yellow and expansive.
