November 5, 2023 - Still kinda tightly wound of all things.

September 26, 2023 - Dinner with Claudia Sottimano (Chicago, IL): I preferred the Pajore to this, even though the Pajore was firmer, more brooding, and arguably less accessible. This came across as a bit lighter, and though it showed a mix of red and black fruit, it was a little more open than I would have expected for a 2010. More accessible for drinking now, if you must, but there is upside for aging this.

May 12, 2021 - Still a bit firm, but excellent fruit and structure to improve from here. Color is lovely. Next one in 3-5 years.

May 1, 2021 - Opened this morning and left on cellar floor. Mature notes of slightly burnt fruit. Lightfooded and super elegant, kind of discreet, allusive. Juicy on the palate, soft tannins. Long and the juiciness stays with you. Beautiful Barbaresco. I would drink up now, with all that juicyness intact.

July 10, 2020 - Gazing disconsolately at my good, but thoroughly uninspired choice of wine for the night I was suddenly struck by inspiration. Would Ennio Morricone drink Cabernet tonight? Of course not! Nasty Neb was the order of the night. Like Saul on a certain road to a certain town I found myself corkscrew in hand, deed done and a bottle of Sottimano broached.

Brick red, fading to burnt orange at the rim but persistence of colour is promising. Powerful aromas of cherry, rose petal, tar and some liquorice; this follows through on a really intense, potent palate. The finish is long and fresh, clean acidity keeps you wanting more. Of course it wouldn't be Nebbiolo if it didn't have drenching tannins, but these are fine, ripe and work superbly with food. This wine has rekindled my interest in Neb. Buy two bottles of this wine - one for your private enjoyment (never share your toys) and one to sort out your associates - friends will like it and the others are clearly gauche swine to be rapidly dispatched to the outer depths of suburbia, where they belong. A final note - I am becoming a disciple of the Bordeaux stem not Burgundy for choice of glass when it comes to Nebbiolo - bring on the hate!
