Community Tasting Notes 10

April 6, 2022 - This has evolved somewhat since I tried it last, but it doesn't seem to have improved much. Although some tertiary notes are starting to show, it should hold for a few more years. This was an average value at a little under $40.

February 28, 2021 - Double decanted in the AM.
On the nose, balsam, red licorice, tar, dried roses, and ripe dark cherry fruit that walks right up to almost overripe. Mid to full bodied, sappy and dense, but not heavy. More ripe nebbiolo fruit, good perfume, and tar on the palate. It's a well made honest wine with typicity, a little chewy and lacking finesse if I am picking nits. Finishes with firm nebbiolo tannins and good perfume. Drinking pretty well and I doubt it will improve. On the upside, it was quite good with grilled pulpo tonight.

May 10, 2020 - A bit tired, but still excellent. I have decanted it an hour before drinking, but it still needed more time in the glass. Lovely spicy, leathery and cured meat notes, some very dark fruit, cherry and dark plum with chocolate. Heavy silk.

May 10, 2016 - At a restaurant, it was available and had some age. Still a bit tannic, may a surprise with a Marcarini, but resolved enough to enjoy, and smoothed out as it took on air. Darker than a lot of nebbiolos. Lots of tar on the nose, with a hint of floral and red fruit. Big palate, still a bit tannic and acidic, but worked wonderfully with the food. Long finish. Nice find on the list.

January 2, 2016 - This has developed well 2 years on. Restrained & understated, typical elements in place, though simplistic. Conterno Fantino '99 superior.
