Community Tasting Notes 2

  • Dagalaifus Does not like this wine:

September 1, 2014 - This Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with 11% Petit Verdot is made by John Robert Eppler, whose wines are typically very good to outstanding. I use the word "typically" because I found this Cabernet to represent one of his rare fails. The wine is garnet and fullbodied with aromas and flavors of blackberry, rhubarb, oak and pronounced Baker's spice. (Think cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, anise, etc). The wine has a lengthy finish infused with those spices, which I found overpowering. Addendum, an extended decant did nothing to dissipate the Baker's spice tsunami.

January 17, 2013 - THE RED WHALE California Cabernet Tasting (Alek's house): A pronounced note of Ethiopian coffee bean (read: blueberry) combines with dying lilac and something savory. On the palate, the fruit is buried under earthiness and a pretty serious wall of tannins, which coat and linger... This wine is super young.
