August 6, 2023 - I really like where this is now. Beginning to show earthy - almost burgundian - notes. Still fine fruit and classic Northern Rhone traits.

July 17, 2022 - A very well balanced Hermitage that is just beginning to show some age and complexity. Cured meats & chocolate are beginning to shine on the nose with raspberry, blackcurrant and cedar. Velvet texture, tannins and very fine and relaxed, and outstanding length. The palate has a bit more complexity and intensity than the nose. Overall it's balanced and light on its feet, delivering classic Syrah flavour, what else would you expect from Chapoutier. Delicious with bacon cheeseburgers! 馃崝

January 7, 2022 - While I鈥檝e been a big fan of Chapoutier鈥檚 other bottlings, this is my first experience with the Sizeranne. This is a selection of fruit from M茅al, Bessards and Greffieux.

At almost 11yrs old, I wasn鈥檛 sure if this needed some time to blow off funk or not, so I consumed from bottle and opted not to decant, which I think worked well. The aromatics here totally stole the show鈥here was a roasted plum combo with savory tomato stew type notes that were so unique鈥 rollercoaster balance of dark fruit and tart/herbal flair. Palate was as expected with red and and black currant, mocha dusted black cherries, tart iron and black pepper. Really pretty highlight of iron all the way through but not to where it dominated everything. The tart fruit and tangy/savory iron play was right up my alley. This seems to be in a prime drinking window and likely hangs here the next 5-7yrs.
