February 20, 2010 - At first, had no idea why this had received such high ratings. After about 20 minutes, however, it became clearer. With some air, lovely violet, leather, and allspice aromas lead into a leathery, blackberry palate. The violets creep back into the finish, which is also nice and spicy. Excellent QPR for a riserva under $20. Purchased in 2007. Nearly 3 years in cellar. Could have kept for another 12-24 mos. easily.

April 11, 2009 - Red fruit/cherry on the nose, but overwhelmed by pure oak when first opened. Oak eventually mellowed into vanilla after a couple of hours. Fairly harsh tannins also mellowed a bit with time. With half a day of decanting, may have become more balanced. Was enjoyable with Chicken Parmigiana, but have had better at his price point.

March 23, 2008 - 100% Sangioveto (local word for Sangiovese) aged 2 years in Slovenian and French oak barrels. An aromatic nose of earthy forest floor, unsweetened cocoa powder, dried cherries, cranberries and chocolate covered raisonettes. Bright red fruit on the palate and a nice underlying minerality that adds to the complexity of this wine. Medium bodied, bright acidity, and a medium long finish. Great quality with pairs extremely well with chicken and duck. 4/5

December 15, 2007 - NOSE: bright red fruits: cherry & strawberry; hints of oak and stone; notes of bacon emerge as the wine opens up; overall, the bouquet is rather light.
BODY: clear; medium red with slight browning throughout; medium-light bodied
TASTE: light taste (it's been so long since I've had a Chianti ... now I remember why I don't drink them often -- call me a "new world" guy, but this is too light to really impress me -- I don't understand all the positive reviews); finishes medium hot; kind of tart; this wine drank much better alongside a chicken fettucine in red sauce than it did on its own - I agree with those who've said this is a better food wine than on-its-own wine.
Me: 50, 4, 11, 13, 6 = 84 points
Ash: 50, 4, 10, 13, 7 = 84 points

October 6, 2007 - Once again this was a good food wine - this time with fettuccine bolognese. Cherry flavors and aromas with sweet earth and peppery spices . Very good.
