Heynetty Likes this wine:
July 6, 2020 - Tasted Blind
A: Pale ruby
N: Medium (+) nose of red cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, chocolate, green and black tea, smoke and leather
P:Dry, high acidity, medium (+) silky supple tannin mainly on the tongue and roof of mouth, medium alcohol, medium body, medium (+) intensity and and finish
C: BLIC? Balanced well enough between the acidity and the fruit intensity and ripeness. This is not quit e complex but certainly not simple. I give a full mark to length and intensity so its a very good quality wine.
Guesses:
There seemed an earthy quality to the wine in the foreground and so I thought this was Old World and the acidity seemed a cool climate was here. The acidity persisted after filling the mouth and so I believe this is the natural acidity as opposed to acidification in the winemaking. The color intensity suggested Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo or Grenache. Not a lot of cool climate grenache around as it needs a warm environment. The aromas seemed in keeping with a PN and the tannin level, nature and location (see Beyond Flavour by Nick Jackson MW) is spot on for PN.
Mistakes:
Others in the group guessed Gamay but it just didn't seemed more savoury than that (whole cluster fermentation). some of the Beaujolais cru are quite savoury but this seemed too pale for that. -

January 6, 2018 - Just starting to fade, I think, but was great value. Bright raspberry fruit with some good acidity. 87 points

June 24, 2017 - It's not as good as a few years ago but still above average. Bright light cherry with a bit of acidity, not very complex but a decent drop and at 6 years old it is holding up well. 87 points

June 23, 2015 - Nice color. The nose is pure, but a bit light, showing aromas of red fruits, pepper, underbrush and minerals. This is medium bodied on the palate with good concentration and good class for this appellation. The medium length finish is a touch peppery with slightly rustic tannins.
