December 13, 2019 - I enjoyed this. slight funk, light fruit, acidity a bit high. had a discussion with wife about balance - it's a pretty wine, but given the funk muting the fruit, the acidity really takes over. for me, it's balanced enough to be in the window and quite enjoyable. but I'll concede that it's not perfectly in the zone. my guess - this is on the downhill as the fruit continues to fade.

January 31, 2015 - Tough to judge this one. On the one hand, undeniably solid and enjoyable. On the other hand, not nearly as aromatic or complex, to the best of my recollection, as the 2009 or 2010 white label. Perhaps it needs more time or perhaps 2001 wasn't the best vintage for Carema—I don't know. The wine has plenty of structure, and having enjoyed the black label at 23 years of age I'm inclined to believe that more time in the cellar is what's needed for this to show its real stuff. Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3.

January 22, 2014 - A really striking, exotic wine. Slight bricking apparent. Fruit is cherry, cranberry and raspberry. Very firm tannin still. Leather and a spice/herb mix that's too complex to untangle (though both black pepper and anise are heavy players, with eucalyptus as an accent). Finish is a nice balance between the tongue-drying tannin and the mouth-moistening acidity! This could easily be worth following for another 15 years....The CT drinking window on this one (which ends in 2013) is way off...conservatively, this is just now getting into its drinking window, and I suspect it may still improve with a few more years....

May 19, 2012 - CT Offline IV--Hill Country Edition; 5/18/2012-5/19/2012 (Austin / Texas Hill Country / Castleman Ranch): Sweet, anise flavored. Some good smoke and a lot of spice. Really nicely long finish. Great wine for sure.

May 19, 2012 - CT Texas IV - A Hill Country Treat; 5/18/2012-5/19/2012 (Austin, Texas): Tasted on the bus ride to the ranch. Great nose of sour cherry, tar, rose petals, tobacco, and spice. On the palate, dominated by sour cherry, leather, and tobacco. Finishes with high acidity and sturdy tannins. Great experience, would like to see this one again in a few years.
