Community Tasting Notes 11

August 7, 2016 - Nose rich, hint of hoyster (personnal), custard, baked apple. Mouth full, intense, with a big matter, nice vivacity, gently oxydised. Sufficently long. Excellent. What else ?
Nothing brain storming, just for friends (amateurs). Ganevat way of life.

July 26, 2016 - Medium golden. Balanced, with beautiful acidity. We get hazelnuts, and some nice earthy hits, but not really any marshmallow, contrary to other notes from a few years below. Nor do we find this to be especially oxidative (if at all) compared to other truly oxidative Jura wines. Instead, we found old-fashioned and complex Chardonnay character. Lovely stuff over four nights.

December 13, 2014 - Decanted and poured back into the bottle some 8 hours before dinner. A vivid, expressive nose right off the bat. There is definitely a strong oxidative edge to the nose, which possesses a wide variety of aromas ranging from tangy apple and citrus to beeswax, hazelnut and stylish dry wood. At times the fruit seems to lean towards pumpkin, which is definitely a first for me when it comes to Chardonnay. Simply put, this one has an amazingly complex, utterly captivating nose. On the palate linear and focused in a totally cool bone dry and really crisp style. Hugely intense and refreshing, marked by high acids and considerable salinity. Not fruit forward at all, though there is some nice dry citrus fruit beneath the more dominating minerally and salty components. Really cleanses the palate and whets the appetite. A class act with a unique, highly interesting style, and it only got better when paired with Comté, which brought some more fruit out of it. I actually have to disagree with the previous tasting note; I think on its own this is fairly AFWE stuff, but with food it's a whole different story. 22 € for this level of quality, style and authenticity is pretty neat.

December 5, 2011 - Old-world chardonnay and one of the best interpretations. Chardonnay is not one of the most expressive grape varietals and as such can have many different faces. The acidity on this wine runs through the fullness on the palate. A hint of nutty oxidation and tickling white rock finish. A rare gem in that it is a Jura wine that most people will enjoy.

November 17, 2011 - DC Wine Bloggers Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): I've had this wine before, but liked it even more this time, maybe because I spent a lot of time with it. Aromas of yellow apple, marshmallows, smoke and honeycomb. The palate is plump and smoky, but the acid and mineral edge are so intense that the wine feels perfectly balanced. Gorgeous hazelnut and peanut shell flavors, with a hint of seaweed and minerals. While I love chardonnay in all its interpretations, this one has a little bit of everything in it. It's a wine that most anyone can find something to enjoy. Fantastic stuff.
