June 29, 2020 - Out of magnum, last night, this bottle was impeccably stored, had a pristine label, great fill level, perfect cork, and a spinning capsule. My lucky night!

The wine was delicious and perfectly mature. Vaulted aromatics of roasted jalapeƱos, dried red and black fruits, cranberry, cinnamon, currant, sous-bois, and band-aid. It was light and lifted on the palate, and still juicy, reminding me even of an old-school and savory red Burgundy in texture, except for the vegetal notes which screamed old Cabernet. It lacked some concentration in the mid-palate that perhaps a finer wine would have provided, but it filled out nicely after an hour in the decanter.

No doubt this was a better-than-average bottle. If I had any remaining, which, sadly, I do not, I would drink now. It offered lots of pleasure and was a great match with fire-grilled skirt steak with a light shallot and cognac sauce.

March 20, 2016 - had a few '80's Cali Cabs cuz i graduated high school that year... fun in a way to take to high school friends dinners etc but really should be focused on '78 and '76... this wine was fine, not per se over the hill given it had some really body to it, also some faint fruit but it was simply dominated by oak'ish elements and had some shrill acid... didn't kill the wine given the body and some glycerin mouthfeel but not inspiring

August 18, 2015 - better than my first bottle, similar nose and palate as my previous note but with the fruit (dark red) dialed up a bit and the secondary / earthy notes dialed down slightly... this just felt like it had enough more liveliness to make a great aged Cali cab

August 14, 2015 - this wine (and two more) was purchased a few wks after i had had a stellar bottle of 1978 Spring Mountain Vineyards Cab Sauv, the color was med dark, the nose was cedar / leather / hint of fruit, the palate was more balanced and tasted like a modest aged bordeaux, the mid palate and finish were just a bit drying and it felt like there might have been more balance (i.e. more fruit) 5-7 years ago, this was the lowest fill of the three i bought (1mm below shoulder / neck transition) and so i am hopeful that one or both of my remaining bottles will sing, this was fine and pleasant but not a rebuy at this point (price was $75)

March 22, 2015 - Really nice--in a great place; dried cherry with dried leaves and slightly sweet core of fruit left; pot pouri, red fruit impressions; silky, tannins almost all resolved but still slight grip present. Lovely and perfumed. From magnum, with Rib eye steak with family in Palm Desert.
