October 12, 2023 - Gosh.. this has really improved all round since my last bottle.. a year ago.
What a bouquet.. when double decanting.
A small taster reveals a very dark black cherry red in the glass; tannins fully integrated now.. where as before, a 4hr decant was required to smooth them out.
Full mouthful of sour cherry, with a decidedly sweet hint of cigar box, proving that 11 years on.. this 'Luncheon' claret..still has the legs & the stuffing to age further.
Where as before, I'd endorse drinking it with a Sunday roast.. Lamb, Beef or a good Steak & Kidney Pudding... but this bottle is singing without the need of a 'plateful'. Serve it just above cellar temperature.. & let it breath & warm up naturally over a lazy lunch.
One bottle left.. alas... but excellent value @ £105 for a case of 12 incl Duty & VAT.
I'll see if its improved much on day 2..!

(originally bought a full OWC 12x75cl case in 2018).

June 29, 2016 - Nice nose but underwhelming when tasting. High alcohol, plum, blackberry, wood, vanilla, high tannins. Need food to go with it. 87 pts

May 15, 2015 - Loads of fresh, sweet black cherries, licorice and espresso, coupled with round, soft textures and a forward profile. The wine was produced from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
