December 1, 2019 - Without a doubt up there with my WOTY - cedar on the nose; dark fruits with trademark smoke, cigar box and cedar on a palate that first you think is just very nice, and then it hits you with layer after layer through an endless finish, memorable.

September 16, 2019 - Slow oxed for two hours before serving. Earth, minerals, herbs, tobacco, dark fruit and menthol. Very layered and vibrant with beautiful stream of acidity. Consistently great.

June 22, 2019 - In my cellar since release in 1988 when my records indicate I paid $56 for it at Morrell’s in NYC. Decanted around 4:30pm and enjoyed from about 8-10pm. Medium to dark translucent garnet color, only ever so slight bricking. Huge earthy nose that expressed a lot of chocolate while decanting then cigar box, cedar, black earth, sous bois, leather, violets, pepper and graphite. Medium acidity and well integrated tannin and a rich, soft and velvety mouth feel. Palate reflects the nose in its earthiness and shows some cassis and blackberry. Finish is long to very long with some cigar tobacco. So balanced layered, complex and earthy overall and perfect with a grilled steak. Plenty of life left on this too.

June 22, 2019 - Decanted for 3+ hours and enjoyed with grilled steak. Massive earthy notes on the nose and palate, dried cherries. Soft and classy.

    March 29, 2019 - Drank at home

As a lover of HB, the weight of the palate was a supreme disappointment on this occasion. Having had the Ch. Margaux ‘85 a week before, this was not comparable. The nose: too smoky. The palate: too thin. But there is so much loitering that means business which makes me think I might’ve had a slightly subpar bottle. Though that, in and of itself, is a shame, it does mean there’s reason to believe the next bottle of this mighty wine might will shine through.

(Château Haut-Brion) Medium red violet color with small floating sediment particles and pale meniscus; tangy, barbecue sauce and hoisin nose; tangy, tart hoisin sauc, plum palate, big and structured, with lots of stuffing; medium-plus finish 92+ pts.

(Chateau Haut Brion) This is just a sexy bottle of wine that is in such a good place right now. Huge fruit, opulent palate, great crisp acids and a killer finish. All the Haut Brion character you could want but in an easy way. Great fragrance on the nose. A bottle could be finished very easily of this due to the sensational lithe yet heavy texture. I lked this alot.
