Community Tasting Notes 2

March 20, 2014 - 100% Godello aged for 8 months in new 500-liter oak barrels and for a further 6 months in bottles.

Pale yellow-green color. Quite reticent nose that doesn't offer much: some savory wood spice, a little bit of toasty oak character and a hint of sweet tropical fruit. The wine is rich and full-bodied on the palate with delicate white flower notes, some dry oak spice, a little bit of creaminess, a hint of yeasty leesiness and ripe hints of yellow and white fruits. The acidity feels medium to moderate. Overall the wine feels heavier and a lot less refreshing than the entry-level Godelia with somewhat tired character. The rich finish is somewhat sweet and medium in length with flavors of honey, ripe pineapple, some creamy oak spice and a little bit of ripe red apple.

A white wine with quite a bit of weight, richness and complexity, but too little focus and freshness. I guess this wine tastes how many people perceive Spanish whites - heavy and oaky. I think this might've been more interesting effort with less obtrusive oak character. The oak isn't THAT overwhelming, because there's still quite a bit of fruit still left to the wine, but for my taste there's still too much wood here, stripping the wine of its freshness and enjoyment. Probably a decent and quaffable wine if you like oaky whites, but I wasn't particularly impressed by this.

March 6, 2014 - Good aromatic intensity here. Clean aromas of honeysuckle, lemon, candied peach and beeswax come to mind with a slight earthiness that lurks in the background.

Bright acidity and flavours of gala apple, lemon, quince and coriander pervade the senses initially leading into gentle nutty/salty tones that culminate with a mineral laden finish. Round in the mouth with medium weight, perceptible but not overbearing alcohol and a pleasantly long finish (20-25 sec).

Maturity is just beginning to set in here as the fruit is just beginning to lose its fresh edge and gentle oxidative notes begin to emerge. This is delicious and interesting right now. I feel like this has not reached the limits of its maturity but I would be drinking it over the next 1-2 years to ensure maximum enjoyment.
