Community Tasting Notes 10

July 2, 2019 - I’ve never read nor experienced such disparity in a wine. Parker panned it with an 86. Cellar tracker tasters are all over the board with it. I’ll tell you that while it’s got some rough edges and tannic attitude at first, the fruits do come out after much aeration, but it’s not got much length, which leads me to an overall mediocre score. So give it air. In fact it was better the next day, but still not a great wine.

May 20, 2019 - Tremendous. Wonderful fruit and has a fantastic finish.

June 22, 2018 - Hourglass: Fun to check out and debate-about from an educational perspective, this wine was brought out by our gracious host primarily for that exact purpose. Specific notes typical of those 2011 Napa Cabs I’ve had before. Black and red currant, red bell pepper, poblano pepper, juniper, and earth. A bitter floral note emerged as well.

I’m not an automatic wet blanket when it comes to the 2011 vintage and Napa Cabernet. But I have very few references from that vintage that hold much relevancy and interest for me. Those that are “good,” are still light years behind other vintages by comparison. Why invest in 2011 when EVERY other vintage surrounding it is better? For me, it’s obviously a rhetorical question. For others, they just can’t have a gap in their precious verticals I suppose. God bless ‘em...

...a wine to pair with tequila shots and a Chile Relleno Chimichanga...

October 27, 2017 - I paid $125 for this four years ago and can now buy it at auction for $50-75. Foolish me.

This is yet another fungible Napa Cab. Decent wine for the archetype but why do I have 1,300 of these in my cellar?

January 3, 2017 - All I can say is WOW! Drank the bottle on New Years Eve, and thank god it was the first bottle with dinner. Didn't have high hopes as it was a 2011. No decant. Had to be the second best wine I've had all year behind a 2005 Peter Michael. I need to locate some more bottles.
