March 28, 2023 - Clear, medium ruby fading to a clear rim. Decanted 5 hours.

Bouquet is rich and elegant and remarkably complex. Violet, chocolate, espresso, dusty black fruit, smoke and meat.

Palate is plush and full with firm tannins, powerful acids, texture and density.

Flavours of violet, ripe black fruit and meat match the nose. Exceptional length.

Beautiful wine to drink now but I would love to have the chance to try this again in another decade.

March 26, 2023 - Medium body, elegant, long finish 1.5 hours in decanter—probably should have been a bit longer. In the glass, it was initially thin on mid palate but filled out as time went on. By end of meal, just terrific, elegant, and long.

    February 11, 2023 - nose - char, mushroom
mouth - savory, hickory, loads of dark fruit and still very fresh, I often find HB to have a smoky essence, and here , after some time, it grew on me, and I found myself quite enamored.

January 15, 2023 - Deep garnet red still intense flavors complex cherry and blackberry a hind of cedar wood and ink. Full bodied with soft textured tannins and very good length

January 7, 2023 - PnP and followed for several hours, filled out a bit with an hour of air. Blackcurrants, red cherry, plums, smoke, cigar box, earth, tobacco, and graphite on the nose. Tart cherry, plums, tobacco, earth, graphite, and a number of hard to identify complex flavors. Very nice acidity, mostly resolved tannins, long finish. There was a little leftover on the second day that offered a slightly meaty, bloody taste that was interesting. What a treat to drink a wine like this.

(Chateau Haut Brion) This had a great nose. Really high-toned with deep spice and tobacco. Gravelly minerality developed after a while. The palate was what I expected out of a '95. Closed awkward and promising but was it? The story of 1995 right now. Another 1970 in the making? Only time will tell....or will it? A paradoxical vintage if there ever was one.

(Château Haut-Brion) Reluctant nose; cherry and cassis palate with well-integrated but strong tannins; long cherry finish
