Community Tasting Notes 2

March 10, 2015 - Translucent dark cherry red color. Ripe, quite perfumed and wonderfully nuanced nose with vibrant aromas of ripe black cherries, floral tones, some tobacco, a little bit of juicy red fruits and a hint of cacao nibs. The wine is ripe, rich and lively on the palate with vibrant and focused flavors of sweet black cherries, herbal spice, moderate sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of tobacco, light peppery tones, a hint of bittersweet dark chocolate and a touch of tart cranberries. The wine is impressively structured with high acidity and firm, grippy tannins. The finish is rich, dark-toned and quite ripe with dark-toned flavors of sweet black cherries and plummy fruit, sour cherry bitterness, some tart cranberries, a little bit of savory and somewhat woody oak spice, a hint of bittersweet dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla richness.

A firm, structured and thoroughly classic Chianti Classico where the emphasis is on the ripe yet still very firm and structured dark fruit, not on the oak flavors - the wine does show a little bit of oak, but all the woodier tones are in the background and the main role is wonderfully played out by bright and pure Sangiovese fruit. Drinking well now but feels like the wine is still a long way from its apogee. Most likely won't be peaking at least within the next 8-10 years. Recommended.

January 23, 2015 - The oak is not a major thing here IMHO. Nose is open with dark berries - and yes with hint of oakiness. Palate is medium-bodied with cherry and mocha, yet it is refreshingly clean and balanced. Slight sense of uptight tannins suggests year or two in a cellar though. Still, I would say the wine has excellent structure.
