November 22, 2016 - Deep ruby color with damp earth, mixed berry, spice and kiss of cola aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a nice balance of acidity and supple mouthfeel. It exhibits concentrated baked morello cherry, cola, and spice flavors. Medium-long finish. Bought a case @$16.50/bottle - so great QPR!

March 13, 2016 - Finally opened one of these and they are in a great spot and a fabulous QPR. Glad I have more.

November 25, 2015 - I bought a case of this wine during Loring’s “futures” special about two years ago because their Pinots are ALWAYS good-to-fantastic, especially at the “futures” special pricing (net price of $19.24 per bottle (including sales tax and shipping)).
Sure enough, that was a VERY smart move. For a sub-$20 Cali Pinot, this wine is a marvelous Pinot on a price-to-quality ratio. The bouquet is oaky, smoky, and earthy. I usually don’t drink red wines until they’re about five years old, but with Thanksgiving tomorrow, and with my 2010 and 2011 Pinots at a low level, I decided to try this “youngster” to see if it would pair well with turkey and the usual side dishes.
The wine pours rather dark and is medium-bodied (about a 75% medium-bodied level and about 25% light-bodied). The fruit profile is about a 2/3—1/3 split of both dark and red fruits. There’s the usual dark fruits like plums, blackberries, and black cherries, along with the tart, light, red fruits like raspberries, sour cherries, and red currants. In addition to the fruits, there’s a black pepper and dried herb essence. Despite being light-to-medium-bodied, this Pinot is rich and creamy, thanks to the oak (although I don’t detect any oakiness in the flavor profile, the oak obviously adds to the wine’s richness and creaminess, along with baking spices in the flavor profile). The wine’s structure is perfectly harmonized with the flavor profile, adding food-friendly acidity and tannins to the wine’s core. This wine exhibits depth-of-flavors, complexity, richness and creaminess, and food-friendly structure that makes this wine a killer sub-$20 beauty.
I paired this wine with one of my favorite Pinot-friendly proteins: pork loins spiced with Kosher salt, black pepper, and Herbs de Provence. This wine paired PERFECTLY with the pork loin and has the backbone and structure to pair well with just about any red protein dish, such as prime rib, lamb chops/shanks/racks, as well as just about any steak dish. At the “futures” special pricing under $20 a bottle, this is one of the best Pinots I have ever drunk on a price-to-quality ratio. Yes, I will definitely take a bottle or two to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving tomorrow, but since this wine is still young, most of the other 11 bottles will be consumed over the next one-to-two years. This is a delicious, rich, creamy, spicy, complex, deeply-flavored wine that was ABSOLUTELY worth the “futures” price; if I knew it would be this good (for the price), I should have bought another 5-to-10 cases of this marvelous Pinot. I also bought two cases of Loring’s 2013 “futures” Pinots (a combo of their Russian River Valley, Santa Lucia Highlands, Santa Rita Hills, Santa Barbara Co, and San Luis Obispo County Pinots, which I probably won’t try until 2017). No matter what, Loring Pinot Noirs are ALWAYS good-to-great, especially on a price-to-quality ratio (ESPECIALLY if/when their “futures” are considered). This 2012 Central Coast Pinot Noir is rich, creamy, deeply- and complexly-flavored and is VERY food-friendly.
Since, for me, it is still very young, it still is drinking very well right now. This wine has the structure (acidity and tannins) to mature and age beautifully for another five years or so, if not up to ten more years. As usual for Loring, this wine is beautifully made and on a price-to-quality ratio, is next to impossible to beat. For a sub-$20 Cali Pinot, this wine is almost impossible to beat!!!

  • NKaiser2003 Does not like this wine:

May 31, 2015 - All fruit driven , too much in front , very lush . In blind tasting I would if think it's a warm climate merlot.
    Not a fan
