August 28, 2005 - This wine is losing the tartness and deep minerality it had on first release. Still a pleasant, refreshing summer wine, but is now quite mellow compared to the steel like acidity it used to have. Drink up !

July 2, 2004 - I tried this wine this afternoon and although I cannot say it is a 95 pointer, it is one of the top NZSB's I have tried in the last 2 years. "The Stones" is an appropriate name for this wine as it is a mineral laden expession of soil in which it is grown. Tart fruit notes of gooseberry, lime and lemongrass. Bright steely acidity which could use a little time to settle down; if you like that style (and I do), go for it now. It has a delicious lipsmacking finish. 91-92 points.

April 4, 2004 - Aromas of pine, herbs, and citrus. On the palate, this wine has a wave-like momentum that crests with surge of flinty peach and limestone on the finish. Medium-bodied, with decent acidity. The best '03 NZ Sauv Blanc that I have tried this year, including Cloudy Bay. In fact, my wife said "this reminds me of how Cloudy Bay used to taste 8 years ago". I wouldn't go that far, but I can see where's she's coming from. At $12/bottle, here is this summer's patio wine. Note: when I was in NZ, I saw that Cuisine (the leading wine & food mag in kiwi-land) rated this as the top-scoring 2003 SB and scored it 95P.
