Community Tasting Notes 5

June 3, 2015 - Decades of Decadence - x5s: Lime, floral, orange peel, musk, mandarin and some smoky elements form the complex nose. Light honey to the palate with quite an intense spice element. Acidity is really quite lovely with that sea spray note behind it. Excellent texture here. Drink now but good bottles like this should give a lot of pleasure.

February 12, 2015 - Perfect fill and cork. Mid gold. Developed but still fresh - I think this was a good bottle (or should I say cork). Honey, marmalade, white flowers, flint. Textural, rich, high acid. Terrific length. Still going strong. Young vines perhaps, but still a great wine. (93 Excellent wine)

March 12, 2007 - Pale yellow gold. Fat and ripe nose with scents of mango and brazil nut. Full and a bit monolithic in the mouth. Tropical fruit, nut and mineral flavors. Acids are much fresher in this bottle than the last one tried. Nutty, caramel finish but retains some sense of elegance. An interesting curiosity.

April 3, 2006 - Golden, borderline amber color. Freshess beyond what I would expect on the color. Slightly maderized, a touch nutty, but with white flower and citrus notes popping through. Broad, almost exotic midpalate and a touch of refreshing acidity on the finish. Lacking a bit of structure and clearly on the decline, but this is a seminal terroir winie that all burghounds should try.

December 25, 2005 - Yellow gold color. Oxidized old nutty sherry nose with hints of lanolin, beeswax and earth. Full and fat in the mouth with banana, pear and nut flavors buffered by firm acids. The balance is quite fragile and the finish is more sherry like than one would hope for although it brightned up bit after 1/2 an hour. A decent drop with foie gras and persimmons. Drink up.
