June 13, 2023 - Did not decant and tight on opening. Fine tannins, dry just shy of chewy, and further smooths out with time in the glass. The richness from the Petit Verdot shines through. An excellent well balanced cab with more aging potential. I have 3 left and wish I'd bought more.

March 28, 2021 - Vinturied into decant consumed over several hours,
Epic wine really, beautiful nose with mature oak and fruit, no sign of age yet, opulent is a good adjective here.
This would rival any 1st growth BDX imo.
I bought this from Nils personally in 2012 while tasting it with him from the picknic table at the winery.
If only the young and dumb wine makers could be this talented.
Drink now with decant, thru 2025. -

October 5, 2020 - Notes from memory. Deep black and blue fruit, including plums, boysenberries, and blackcurrant. Decanted but still tight so will be best 2022-2030. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 92.

April 20, 2019 - Decanted 2 hours ahead of grilled lamb chops. Dark crimson-purple color. Nose brings red roses, red lavender, ripe cherry blossoms, dried herb, and hard grape candy. The palate is full, supple, expansive, and concentrated, bringing dark blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrant, cherry oak, and strawberry cobbler. Felt slightly on the hot/extracted side (especially for Saddleback). The oak is still integrating, but this is still an opulent treat with a rustic edge. Drink 2020-2028. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.

August 18, 2018 - I’m always in awe with anticipation and high expectations whenever I open one of Nil’s gems. This is “old school” Napa at its best: never overripe, nor over extracted, just classily made and balanced in a style that will cellar as long as many Cru Classe Bordeaux’s. These wines always fly “below the radar” because they seldom are seen in Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, or Decanter...always left for those of us who are “geeky” purists....I’ll always enjoy the picnic tables well before I’ll ever be impressed by the glitter of the pretentious tasting rooms.
This is another classic in a long line of great Cabernets!1 person found this helpful Comment
