Community Tasting Notes 15

  • Schwarzer Hund Likes this wine:

February 15, 2021 - Medium yellow color, after 1 hr of airtime in bottle, nose was tropical fruit plus mild citrus and honey, dense tropical and lemon fruit, some acidity and slight sweetness, medium length finish. good with roasted halibut. Our last bottle but we recommend drinking it up if anyone is still holding it.

December 8, 2020 - This was a really nice chard, even if it would seem to be beyond the normal window. Crisp and somewhat dry, no oak to speak of, excellent pairing with our shrimp pasta dinner. Am suggesting 2023, it definitely has some time left in its prime (and I see nearly 150 bottles left in community cellars!).

July 3, 2019 - Aromas of honeysuckle, orange marmalade, lime and saline. Flavors of lemon meringue, lime, slate and dried pear. Ends with a mineral and lemon driven finish of 20-25 seconds. Certainly not my favorite SVD from Williams Selyem. Pails in comparison to the old Hawk Hill bottling.

April 21, 2019 - Should have read others' comments before bringing to Easter Brunch! Either this was a bad bottling, or its almost completely gone to sugar. Color of molasses as it came out of the bottle; sluggish and viscous in the glass. Aromatics also off. Some pineapple and coconut (expected), but also something chemical and that slight whiff of blue cheese mentioned by others. Stored under perfect conditions, so I'm blaming W-S!
