January 13, 2015 - This bottle performed better than the previous one I had (Nov 2014), showing much more youthful character suitable for a wine this young.
Overall the wine is quite consistent with my previous notes, although showing less of those developed, raisiny and Tawny Port-ish characteristics. Compared to the regular Camillo Ciliegiolo, this is somewhat sweeter-toned, softer and a bit more voluptuous, opting for darker fruit and more obvious ripeness instead of freshness and vibrancy. Structure-wise the acidity here feels lower, but the tannins more pronounced.
A good, impressive and noticeably ripe Ciliegiolo, but I prefer the freshness and energy of the entry-level wine. -

November 29, 2014 - PnP. Violet red. Nose features pepper, iron, and earth with cherries/blackberry kind of lurking underneath. Palate has medium weight fruit, light tannins and a good dose of acidity. Dark somewhat musty flavors. Nice balance; feels refreshing without the usual cues of bright fruits. Not particularly complex, penetrating or lengthy, but very nice, interesting and good with food.

November 6, 2014 - Translucent dark cherry color with a hint of brick-red hue. Rich, aromatic and very sunny nose with slightly raisiny fruit, some sweet volatile character, light plum liqueur notes, a little bit of leather and a hint of tawny port. Very weird and atypical nose, especially for a wine this young. The wine is dry and relatively light-bodied on the palate, yet showing surprisingly much concentration with intense flavors of bright red fruits like tart lingonberries and bitter sour cherries along with some sweeter tones of boysenberries, spicy oak and allspice. The wine is pretty structured with high acidity and moderately grippy, youthful tannins. The finish is somewhat tannic and a bit grippy with crunchy and vibrant flavors of allspice-driven roasted spices, ripe dark berries, some aromatic herbs, a little bit of sweet VA lift and a savory hint of oak spice.
An atypical, characterful and positively a bit odd Tuscan red made entirely from Ciliegiolo - a variety normally considered suitable only for blending purposes. Lots of complexity here with some untamed, natural vibes to it. At times the wine feels surprisingly evolved for its age, only to taste very bright, youthful and crunchy in the next moment. Most likely a divisive wine, but I enjoyed its fresh outside-the-box style. Priced according to its quality at 20€.
