Community Tasting Notes 3

February 10, 2007 - The nose attacks with some dry black fruit. There's figgy, peppery notes afterwards and the oak is prominent. On the palate the oak has some sweetness to it. The balance is ok with good acidity and maybe a little too much warmth. An enjoyable, easy drinking bottle but there's not a great deal going on.

August 11, 2006 - Sweet coffee and some oak on the nose. Blueberry and boysenberry on the palate. Very forward in the mouth. Initially this seemed sweet and fruity but after a little while quite the opposite. Fair amount of acid and heat on the finish. None of the depth and richness you would expect of a villages but still good value.

August 4, 2006 - Medium red with some nice consistency. The nose initially had some sweet oak, this blew off a little revealing dried black fruits, and the slight remnants of the oak. The palate is a tad austere and a little heavy with plenty of tannin, acid and alcohol. There's some bright fruit on the attack but not much evident in the mid palate. While the structure is ok I feel a little more fruit and character would improve this wine. Still, can't expect much more for ~£8! Might be worth trying again to see if the tannin and warmth settles a little but I'm not sure if age will benefit the wine given the lack of fruit.
