December 27, 2023 - Robe rouge amarante dense.
Nez ouvert, fruits mûrs, framboise noire, cassis.

April 24, 2021 - Appears light purple, with some sediment and slight bricking around the edges. Nose reveals raspberry and blackberry fruit, with significant garrigue and black pepper. On entry, the wine shows restrained fruit - sour cherry, blackberry, and lighter raspberry flavors, but the secondary characteristics are dominant - garrigue, pickling spices, pepper, and a little earth. Acid is dominant on the finish, resulting in a not unpleasant sour note. Probably at or just past peak. Though, I did not treat this bottle kindly (basically uncellared). If treated properly, perhaps it could go longer. Interesting take on Aussie Shiraz with the lower ABV (13%) and more focus on acidity, minerality, and the secondary flavors that Syrah can develop over time.

December 14, 2020 - 2011 Domaine Terlato et Chapoutier Shiraz Lieu dit Malakoff was mature, earthy and mineral-driven. The fully developed Australian Shriaz was medium garnet in colour with significant amount of deposits. Freshly uncorked, there were aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and leather. With two hours in bottle, it developed notes of forest floor, tobacco, black pepper and raw meat.

The mouthfeel was dry and rather full-bodied, with medium levels of balanced acidity and fully integrated tannin. On the mid-palate was an unusually satisfying oily texture. Flavours of bramble, wet earth, gentle spices and intense ferrous minerality lingered in a long savoury finish.

It was impressive that such intensity and complexity was achieved at a modest alcohol level of 13.0%, which is a rare feat in Australia amid global warming. It is commonly agreed that great Syrah gains appreciable sophistication at around ten years of age. Patience pays off big time.

November 14, 2020 - Sour. We have always struggled with Australian wines.

November 5, 2020 - Wow that has loads of spice on the nose. So lean on the palate but I remember it opened up. Clean and tight now. Just opened. From magnum.
