Community Tasting Notes 4

October 17, 2015 - Needs time to breathe, as it changes considerably on the nose and palette with time.

On the nose, it gives up candied strawberries, smoke, cedar and earth. On the palette it offers tart cherry, minerality and a hint of spice.

Structurally a nice, balanced wine with just the right acid drive to create a good finish.

February 17, 2015 - Should have paid more attention when I picked it out of the pinot gris bin. Not a big fan of noirs so it's hard to be fair.

September 21, 2014 - Definitely has a gamey quality to it on the nose with some light earth and funk, but there's also some strong, tart red fruit complexity with cinnamon, dried roses and some herbal notes. Getting some cola as well. Tasty red cherry flavors on the palate with raspberry and cinnamon stick. The wine has a good punch of acid that drives a long finish. The tannin is there but isn't too noticeable. This is drinking really well right now, and I imagine it improving over the next 2-4 years.

Note: Funk and reduction notes blew off after about two hours of air time. Bright, candied strawberries and graham emerge towards the forefront. Pretty cool to see how a little air time can change a wine.

June 27, 2014 - Tasted at winery. The label and the tasting room guy claims I should experience bright fruit flavors. I did not. This was extremely Burgundian and earthy, which wasn't so terrible as I like that style, but it wasn't so well done that I believed it was showing correctly. I think there may have been something wrong. Or I just don't have the same idea of fruit that they do.
