January 2, 2017 - High alcohol on the nose reminiscent of port. Medium ruby red colour with browning on the edges. Somewhat dull in appearance. On the palate, nothing like any NZ pinot noir I have tasted. Surprisingly well balanced, some berries and dark chocolate on the palate.

June 6, 2016 - No notes taken at the time, but at 15% alcohol it's tempting to suggest that this was out of balance.

As I remember, this was certainly a fuller and 'sweeter' style of PN, but worked very well with a variety of foods.

December 25, 2015 - Excellent stuff. Carried it's 15% alcohol without any problems. Would have bought more but Lay and Wheeler had run out.

August 9, 2014 - medium dark ruby, not very clear. intense aromas: berries, red cherries, violet, some floral and perfume. full bodied in mouth, balanced at high end: rich fruity flavours, jammy edge; silky tannins, super fine grained; high alcohol, rounded; supported by supple acidity. herbal, creamy vanilla and meaty savoury notes in the 2nd layer, subtle mint hints. the oak flavour is well integrated. lingering long in finish.

warm and lush, brilliant! quite different style from other NZ Pinot Noir. it shows somewhat expressionist idealism aesthetics.

this is the last bottle in my cellar, just at peak.

    Ap: 4/5; Ar: 13/15; Palate: 18/20; Overall: 5+3/10
    TOTAL: 93/100

May 11, 2014 - 14.5% alc, well supported by appealing dark fruits flavours, firm and velvety tannins, smooth acidity and perfume notes. showing a solid and big structure. compare to the previous one, more elegant, less herbaceous. long finish, full of lush feeling.

RC 17.5 @Oct 2012, (I think it was tight and closed at that time)

    Ap: 4/5; Ar: 14/15; Palate: 18/20; Overall: 5+3/10
