Community Tasting Notes 4

June 4, 2016 - Totally oxidized. Sad as this is a nice wine when ok.

October 25, 2014 - Perhaps the best white Chateauneuf I have tasted? This wine is from one of the appellation's top producers. It certainly tells. The nose delivers classy pear compote, honey, subtle white flowers and roasted walnuts. The palate is balanced and adds to the overall positive impression. It provides a perfectly creamy texture. The acidity is certainly not overly expressive, but with the fruit as the number one component it does not matter. There is not the slightest doubt the Arcane delivers a lovely drinking experience. Please note that the food is very important when serving this wine. We had scallops with hard roasted bacon on a bed of ruccola. I then added some browned butter. The latter certainly did the trick and brought out the best in the wine.

March 22, 2014 - As lovely as during last tasting, but the pear compote and acacia honey is a bit subdued. Instead a very interesting oxidized tone of mature red apple has emerged. Do not be mistake, this is not a n oxidized wine, instead these tones are very typical for the varietal. The palate is velvety, silky and extremely rich with a length on the finish lasting some 50 seconds. Of course this is not a wine for everyone. It is rather extreme and as far as I know the only white Chateauenuf made from 100 % Roussanne. Still it is quite lovely and provides the taster with some very interesting and nice impressions.

August 7, 2013 - A lovely Roussanne, the 2007 Arcanne from one of the appellation's top producers exhibits a very nice nose full of pear compote, acacia honey, white flowers and colza(!). The palate is balanced and perfectly open for business. It provides a lovely creamy texture which certainly adds to the overall experience. The acidity is not overly expressive, instead the Roussanne fruit speaks up. One of the most peculiar wines from Chateauneuf, the Arcane still delivers a lovely drinking experience.
