Community Tasting Notes 12

January 13, 2023 - nose comes across rather oaky - cherry syrup, walnut, coffee/mocha
the mouth has the fruit density to handle the oak makeup better than the nose, and for a barbera this is surprisingly big, or at least that's how its been constructed; the finish shows a flash of its origin with lovely juicy acidity. if I had more of these I would hold them for better intergration. I find this a bit of a stylistic mishmash though I think fans of big Napa cabs could get behind it.

December 18, 2020 - Blind holiday wine night Italian theme. 4 were fantastic and only the last on the list was just good to above average. The majority had our 5 entries finish in the following order, 2010 La Spinetta Bionzo Barbera d’Asti Superiore, 2011 Villa Canestrari Amarone della Valpolicella 1888 Riserva, 2012 Fattoria Le Pupille (Elisabetta Geppetti) Maremma Toscana Saffredi, 1997 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sperss & 2000 Azienda Agricola Sant'Elena Merlot Ròs di Rôl. Needless to say this was a very special evening.

This Barbera was spectacular and completely unexpected. Amazing structure with deep oak notes and nose. Rich, full bodied with a strong, long finish that complimented our rib eye steaks incredibly well.

September 18, 2019 - and another flawed bottle of Superiore.de > the list is getting really painful (and very expensive)

April 11, 2019 - tasted amongst a sea of Barolo and overall the oak is what stuck out the most. I have liked this wine in the past but I think they are overoaking it.
