September 3, 2010 - La Mission Haut Brion plus white Burgs and Port: Disappointing showing for this wine. The groups and mine last place wine. Purple/ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has iodine and tobacco and little fruit left. On the palate, boysenberries and slight earth notes. Still slightly tannic but drying on the finish. Mature. At 24, this bottle was past prime.

June 13, 2010 - Impreccably well stored. I think the best of the first growths in 1986, and easily so. Very cigar boxy on the nose with blackish fruit on the palate. Very long. Somehow Haut Brion avoided the hard tannins that permeate many 1986 Bordeaux. This is a sweet round generous wine lacking any toughness if you will whatsoever. I'm not sure all those higher rated Haut Brions from that decade are substantially better than this.
