March 3, 2024 - Still retaining a dark core of fruit, would not have guessed this to be a 60 year old wine. Elegant throughout the palate but left wanting for more complexity on the finish. Overall very nice.

February 12, 2022 - Fully mature, but not frail, tar on the nose leather on palette, dark plum. Zero sediment!!

Notes From MS: rose and cola.

June 17, 2020 - I had a great bottle of Francesco Rinaldi Barolo 1970 about a month ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to indulge in another old vintage of Francesco Rinaldi's Barolos. Bottle and cork of this 1964 were in impeccable condition. The wine threw a lot of sediment and the bottle was crusted, but the wine was easy to separate from the sediment since the bottle stood upright for the last couple of weeks.

The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and looked quite youthful and dark for a Nebbiolo at this age. Cherry, lots of sweet tobacco, mushroom, spices, ethereal notes, herbal notes and balsamic notes on the nose an palate. Full-bodied, with lively acidity, round, mostly resolved tannin and very good length. Full, ripe, broad and quite sweet, much sweeter than I like even in old wines.

I found surprisingly little Nebbiolo typicity in this 1964. Legend is that it used to be quite common to blend some Barbera or Dolcetto into Barolos in the old days and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the 1964 includes a very generous dash of Barbera…

Even if this was not the profile I was looking for when I pulled the bottle, it is still quite impressive how well this Francesco Rinaldi Barolo 1964 ages!

May 22, 2020 - Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Decanted this a few hours in advance - cork was a soppy mess and the wine was very brown and quite musty on the nose. Was hoping some airtime would add color and liven up the wine - alas it was not to be. Either corked or just Dead on Arrival - this puppy was undrinkable sadly:-(

May 10, 2019 - Incredibly impressive for the age. So dark in the glass and no way indicating a wine that is over 50 years old. A far more aged nose. Flavours of Mint, floral and tar. Layered. Balanced. But so tannic. Drink up.
