Community Tasting Notes 9

May 18, 2023 - On tour with Tim and Phil day one (Canberra Districts and Beechworth): Open 24 hours. Blackberry, still very slight reductive, cream, caramel, sweet spice and slight peppery hints. Juicy, dark hued fruits, that very slightly reductive notes, cream, woody drying tannins. Hmm.

April 4, 2021 - Very young looking, still quite purple. 6 hours six the decanter and still holding strong. Big but a touch of finesse about this, assuming some Eden fruit given the ‘Barossa’ on the label, albeit not a great deal of perfume descriptors. Black plum, sweet tobacco, oak, vanilla, all spice; a text book Barossa, balanced and a high quality wine. Long dry fine tannins, years to go. No rush here and a top drop.

February 6, 2017 - This is often described as an unapologetic and unreconstructed 'Big Barossa shiraz'. But I find it a lot easier to drink than some of the over toasted and over-extracted wines from this region. Purple to black in colour with a pleasant nose of plums and spice. Palate has masses of plums, vanilla and spice. It's not thick in viscosity and there's no overwhelming fruit cake here. Excellent bright acidity on the finish makes it very drinkable. A glossy wine that is ultimately well balanced. Tannins are thick and ropey and contribute plenty to the enjoyment. I'm surprised I like this as much as I do, as Barossa Shiraz can be too ripe for me. But this isn't. Will age very well for another 10 years at least.

December 28, 2016 - This wine is a near opaque purple in the glass that shimmers with intensity. The nose is immediately fragrant with wild blueberries, blackberries, charcoal and candied violets. The palate brings more of the same all rapped in the texture of a fleece blanket. This wine has less than a single gram of sugar in it yet it displays massively fruity tendencies. The tannins are present but masked by ripeness and texture. The finish is near permanent. TY Eric.
