Community Tasting Notes 3

November 14, 2011 - Complete cradle-rob job. Firm, oaky, brilliant robe, tight but ebullient. Only the lamb steak tamed it. Decanting a fine enough possibility if you must, but this is closer to a twenty year than ten year wine...

February 25, 2005 - Fruity, showing flavors of tobacco and cherry pie filling. Medium bodied and well balanced, with a tannic finish. This wine seems to have aspirations to be more than a basic quaffer, and while it has big fruit and a lot of structure and tannin, the components just aren't in harmony, and the wine comes off as somewhat disjointed.

February 4, 2005 - 100% Sangiovese. Palate of roasted espresso beans, pepper, leather, and black cherries. The fruit started out fragrant and ripe; with 30-45 minutes of air, the fruit faded, the acid intensified, and the wine turned mouth-puckeringly astringent. Medium body; hefty tannins on the finish. 90+ points right upon opening; 85 an hour later. Did my palate suddenly go off kilter, or did this really unravel so quickly in the glass? I have 3 more bottles to go, so we shall see.
