September 30, 2017 - clear cherry colour; light rim. nose: bit harsh with some fruits (plums, cherries). taste: quite high acid; nice fruit (cherries, sweet cherries); medium tannin volume; medium length finish. not bad.

November 4, 2015 - A blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Merlot. Aged for 12 months in barriques and further 4 months in bottles before release.
Dark and only very slightly translucent ruby red color with quite black hue. Quite rich and attractive nose with aromas of sweet cherry marmalade, aromatic orange zest character, brambly raspberries, some plummy dark fruit tones, a little bit of savory, woody oak and a hint of tangy, tart red fruits. The wine is moderately full-bodied, ripe and quite tightly-knit on the palate with powerful flavors of sweet black cherries, cranberry-driven tart red fruits, some juicy plummy fruit, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, a hint of allspice and a touch of savory oak spice. Overall the wine feels impressively structured with quite high acidity and noticeably grippy tannins that contribute a lot to the chewy texture and to the firm structure of the wine. The finish is quite long and pretty tightly-wound with noticeable tannic grip and intense flavors of sour cherry bitterness, tangy flavors of tart red fruits, a little bit of ripe raspberry, a hint of plummy dark fruit and a touch of savory oak spice.
A very tasty, bold and serious Montefalco Rosso with a lot of power and impressive structure. Even at the age of 4 years the wine is very muscular and angular with its pronounced acidity and assertive tannins. Obviously in dire need of either some hearty food or extended cellaring - the wine can be pretty forbidding if enjoyed on its own. Shows great potential for further development. Nice stuff with a lot of depth and intensity, good value at 19€. -

November 16, 2014 - The nose is not easy to define; definitely some cherries but dominated bysome mineral notes. On the palate cherries that are quickly dominated by (too) strong tannins and heat from the alcool. Seriously lacks balance and finesse. I am very fond of Caprai's Sagrantino, but this one is disappointing. Will it improve in a year or two? I am not sure.
