May 13, 2024 - Dark berry, funk, pepper and spice with super long finish and evolved over the night
September 6, 2023 - What a change four years in the bottle makes! This has blossomed into a beautiful wine.
April 30, 2023 - Tamed-down but still a bit funky with steely bitter finish.
February 14, 2023 - In a good place, don’t see it improving.
December 31, 2022 - Caught this at a good time, a particularly harmonious Cayuse. I should have given my guests permission to dislike this as I suspect some were less enthusiastic about the marine layer than I am, but magnums are for sharing and the Syrah freaks among us had a blast. Peaking over the next 5+ years.
December 10, 2022 - From magnum, of course. Decanted 90 minutes. Not much funk (decant may have helped). Nicely balanced flavors with minerality, dark fruits,
and earthiness moving from foreground to background. Seamless and polished. Lovely wine much enjoyed by a group with lasagna. May improve slightly from here, 5+ years left IMO.
December 9, 2022 - For SWG holiday dinner. One of many wines opened that night. We decanted this, which may explain why the funk was not overpowering. Definitely signature Cayuse, with the savory funk and barnyard, as well as dark fruits. It was quite good, but not a step up as has been the case with some Armada and BF.
November 6, 2022 - From mag. Same Bottle as Nutty08.
Rocks profile with stony minerals and horse leather amid bing cherry notes. I am finding that the producer signature is incredibly strong here, as it is with No girls, horsepower, etc.
November 5, 2022 - Rhone Birthday 2022; 11/4/2022-11/6/2022: From magnum. Intoxicating nose of barnyard funk, rocks, horse and dark fruit profile. Finely integrated tannins that are present, but subtle, giving this a silky inviting mouthfeel. Finishes with white pepper and spice notes with some tannins coming through. Better with several hours air--funk was almost off-putting initially.
December 25, 2021 - Poured from a 1.5L bottle. Love the funk on this wine. Tastes more like a Cote Rotie than a Washington Syrah. Paired great with beef tenderloin.
