October 8, 2023 - This was a bit browner than the '98 Rinaldi, much softer with less structure, although showed better at first, the Rinaldi took off after breathing. This showed typical earthy notes of wet leaves, bitter root, brown sauce. Tannic structure and acidity were a bit lacking though, and showed slight walnuts (oxy) notes towards the end of the meal. October 8, 2023 - Light red cherry color with some bricking at the rim. Starts off a touch closed but develops beautifully into a classic aged Barolo. Cherry, sandalwood, leather aromas continue on the palate. Tart red fruits with some tannin still evident. Seems to be maybe 5 yrs from peak maturity, but this was delicious. On day two with about 1.5 glasses left, this is more open and giving of itself.

March 31, 2023 - Soy sauce, new leather, dried red cherries, dust, hint of nuttiness/oxidation on the nose. You know the smell when you open box of new sneakers? That's exactly what this smells like. The palate is more interesting. It adds dried herbs, an alluring bitterness and some dried black fruit toward the end.

While the palate is nice, the overly tertiary nose tells me that this is well into its decline. Maybe it's appealing to someone who REALLY likes tertiary smells and flavors. Maybe.

Medium + body with surprisingly great medium + acid. The tannins are declining; but still present (call it low; but you could call it medium -). This wine is absolutely over the hill by now - too bad. While it is still okay now; it should absolutely not age any longer. Maybe their 1998 Brunate still drinks well at this age; but here in La Serra we are over the hill.

November 19, 2020 - Double decanted in the AM.
Soy on the nose at first. With ari time, it gains more fruits and perfume. It's a red fruited nebbiolo, with decaying leaves, dried rose petals, and some subtle balsamic notes. It's an autumnal and then some nose. Mid weighted with a savory mature nose. For my admitted necro palate the sis still very enjoyable, but on the back end. Still enjoyable, but a little tired. Drink up.

February 2, 2020 - Decanted with significant fine sediment towards the bottom of the bottle, despite standing up for 3+ months. Relatively deep colored for Nebbiolo, but still objectively light ruby; nose is moderately aromatic with slight barnyard, slight truffle, slight dark fruit; palate is light bodied, still youthful prominent tannins throughout, medium-plus acidity, fruit is minimal or gone right now; finish is short-medium length. Not currently showing much right after opening, not quite showing mature character like soy or balsamic either. Decent at best. 85
6 hours decanted: a little more aromatically active, palate is put together a bit more, just slight balsamic now on the palate. Improving, but still far from where I expected this to be. 87
Day 2: Still some brett/manure, which overshadows any fruit; palate is similar to yesterday, certainly deeper in style than many Nebbiolo, tannins still present, acidity still pronounced, but overall in decent balance with a bit more balsamic showing today than yesterday. Not significantly more oxidized, but pretty similar to hour 6 yesterday. Decent, but not one to search out.
