May 15, 2020 - A good colour and still quite a spicy nose. The palate showed sweet dark fruit - blackberry and blackcurrant - with spicy notes, good juicy acidity, and length. I think this gets better. It is not a big wine but shows quality and elegance after almost a decade. It is drinking much more impressively than our first bottle, opened 5 years ago. Another example of a wine that has a longer life than the CT drinking dates suggest. I will amend the end date from 2018 to a conservative 2021 but it may well last longer. 89+
A heavy deposit in the bottle so it has been doing good things over time!

April 11, 2019 - A very dark, youthful colour, still. The nose was slow to open but developed well in the glass showing fragrant fruit. This was much more attractive than our last bottle and makes me think that this was a 'sleeper' rather than a poor vintage. Good fruit - damsons, red and black berries. Good acidity - quite fresh and long. It has grown out of the 'jammy' character detected in its younger years. A pleasant surprise after earlier bottles.
Note. Really quite nice after a couple of days, too.

October 14, 2018 - Dark fruit and vanilla on the nose. The palate had plenty of blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum and damson fruit but thus was marred for me by the jammy character (not especially sweet jam) noted 3 years ago. Damson skin tannins and blackcurrant acidity dominated the late palate which was quite long. Better as it opened in the glass over time and much better a couple of hours later with food (slow-cooked beef shoulder) so I have added a point to my last assessment. Nevertheless, it is not what I expect from a good Church Block. Probably OK for a barbecue on a warm sunny day but not a wine of great finesse.
Note. After 2 days, the wine retained good fruit, integrated tannins, good acidity, and length. The jammy character was much reduced and it came over as a better wine. At this late stage, I would give the wine 87 but I have not changed my rating above because I do not believe that many people who still retain this vintage are likely to open the wine 2 days in advance.

May 20, 2017 - Perfect with a slow cooked brisket. Smooth tannins and delicious notes of mulberry and smoke. I'd drink this anytime!
