June 20, 2014 - Oddly smells a bit reminiscent of blue cheese on the nose, for no reason that I can think of, but there it is. Lots of soft plum, musty vanilla oak, earth. Pretty unfocused and very very rustic, and sort of disappears/becomes super muddled toward the finish. Pleasant enough and certainly delivers a very Rioja experience, but I can see why people aren't as nuts about these wines as they are about the ones from the 60s/70s.

April 23, 2014 - Touring Northern Spain; 4/17/2014-4/26/2014: (Tasted at the Bodega in Haro) More complex, mineral and oaky than the crianza but still with some modern licorice fruit. High alcohol and a menthol note; good acidity and tannin. Nice sweetness and quite good overall.
