June 3, 2018 - Big and Bold. Lots of funky earthly notes upon uncorking, so air it out a while before tasting. Dark, almost black juice with a purplish rim. Black forest fruits abound with nice peppery touch. This one is fading fast so drink up.

November 28, 2017 - Gorgeous dark violet-purple. Almost No nose that I could detect and decor for a hint of black fruit. Strong black fruit notes with a hint of Coffee in the finish and sweetness up front.

August 16, 2016 - Wine is a red hued purple. a bit dusty and not completely opaque. Barely limpid, minimal legs on the glass. Bouquet is a subtle mix of perfume, tar and dark fruit. It is evolving as it breathes. There is scent of alcohol and I can feel vapors wafting off the surface more than I have with other wines. Dissipates as it breathes.

Wine is strong and knotty. Tannic from the Syrah and peppery. Fruit is dried black cherry. Leather developing in the bouquet and pepper intensifies. Texture.

Balance is good. But this is a packed wine. A bit surprising four south of France and Langedouc. It seems much hotter than the 13.5% on the bottle. Tannins seem strong and the combination of fruit, tar, pepper and leather/earth notes hold up to balance it all out but it is a mouthful.

This wine stands on it's own with strong cheeses and charcuterie but would balance out well with blackenned BBQ or Lamb. Something that can hold up without competing. Not a sweet BBQ but more a spice rubbed ribs.

For a price point wine, I think this one is a good find but it isn't for everyday. Its a specialist, not a generalist so buy it, taste it and decide what you are going to pair with it next time around.

    7/7.5/8/8/7.5 - 38/88
