September 14, 2019 - Followed this over a few nights. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, brown gold colour. Long legs. Cloudy at end of bottle.
Nose pronounced intensity, with aromas of salted fish, salty Fino Sherry Manzanilla-like, honey nectar, dried plums, wilted flowers. Developed.
On the palate, medium sweet, very high acidity, high alcohol (15%), full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet&sour dried plums, savoury salty minerality, honey nectar, wilted dried flowers, browning cabbage leaves. Extremely ripe concentrated tangerines with more air. Long finish.
Very good quality I suppose. One of the most intriguing wines I've had recently. Initially felt slightly oxidized (though this is supposedly one of the non-oxidative Savagnin wines), then with more air and over the next 2 nights it actually feels less oxidative! Weird right?! Not sure if I am imagining it but the freshness level also seemed to increase with more air. This wine should survive for a long time, though I really don't know how it is going to develop in the bottle. Enjoyable and grows on you.
Late harvest (November) Savagnin that has already withered and dried on the vine. Matured in 400 litre tonneau for 2 years. Barrels are kept topped up during that time.1 person found this helpful Comments (2)
