April 21, 2019 - I chose a couple of Hermitage to accompany some delicious Easter lamb, the other being a Chave 97. I was quite expecting this bottle from a less well known producer, which I had forgotten at the bottom of a rack, to be well over the hill but it was singing with full throat in an elderly but healthy manner. It was mediums/full bodied with dark mature fruit slightly rose petal infused, some old book and forest floor notes, velvety texture, round dark undertow and decent length. I returned to drink the remains at the bottom of the bottle after the vibrant Chave and it was by no means overshadowed. Very good.

September 29, 2017 - Northern Rhone WIMPs (La Trompette, Chiswick): Earthy, old-fashioned nose, very earthy in fact, touch of iron, medium bodied, just about holding together on the palate, medium length finish. Drink up. **.

May 5, 2013 - Limpid and clear garnet color. Very healthy.
Nose of a fully mature wine but without great intensity.
Nice slighlty musty aromas, plummy fruit and black pepper together with dried flowers.
Palate is refined and silky with all edges resolved. But here also intensity is not great.
Could have been better a few years ago, but I would not describe it as tired now.
Shows its pedigree, has aged to reveal profound complexity, it has finesse but yet it is
not a great wine. It hints at what a great mature Hermitage could be like, but it's not one.

January 11, 2011 - Glorious Rhône lunch at 28-50 (London): From magnum. This had a surprising nose of baked apple. Ripe, easy, sweet and approachable with that baked character continuing. There is a very nice vein of fresh acidity than underlies this and makes it quite easy to sip.

August 3, 2009 - Bretty nose of muddy, horse and pig shit...but in a good way! Lovely, fully resolved red/black sweet fruit profile on the palate. Classy, slightly grippy tannins on the finish. Really nice.
