Community Tasting Notes 5

November 30, 2013 - Consensus was that this was significantly past its prime. The cork was in fantastic condition, but the wine tasted oxidized. Disappointed, as I had wanted to try something made by Didier, by his hands.

Well, I have one Pur Sang and one Silex left from the same vintage. Will have to open up both over the holidays. Here's to hoping there will be some life left in at least one of those bottles.

October 17, 2010 - 1 of 3 Dagueneau bottles recently received that were flawed and opened same night. Don't remember if this one tasted cooked or oxidized.

February 2, 2008 - A rather dark gold that suggested that it had oxidized. Indeed, it had. Some mineral and gooseberry come through. But the acidity and most else wasn’t there. On wine searcher the ‘97 is still available as is the ‘99, but not so for the ‘98. The market refects the weakness of the vintage. 12.5% alc. With scallops in sun-dried tomato cream sauce. Not recommended.

September 29, 2007 - Dinner at Home (Byfield, MA): Oxidized, but some hints of a very powerful wine.

March 28, 2003 - Incredible. Absolutely perfect expression of pouilly fume. Grassy and herbaceous, but not agressive, on the nose and front. Crystaline acidity, well-tempered with notes of grapefruit, meyer lemons and lemongrass. Smooth butteriness and subtle oakiness. Mineral notes like flint on the finish and very clean. Incredible balancing act.

Paired: Stuffed squid with tomato sauce
