Community Tasting Notes 1

  • La Cave d'Argent Likes this wine: 90 points

September 30, 2014 - Opaque crimson in color, this heavily-extracted wine flaunts an intense nose of black cherries, blueberries, allspice, pink peppercorns and espresso bean. There is also a hint of volatile acidity which most tasters would consider to be tolerable. Full-bodied and almost unctuous on the palate, it delivers ripe black fruit and spice flavors which are supported by substantial yet sweet tannins. The alcohol (listed as 14.5%) stays in check as long as the wine is served at 55-60°F. The flavors build on the middle palate and the mouth-coating finish is lengthy. This is a very ripe Syrah which will have many fans. It certainly merits its rating, but is a bit too ripe for my palate. If tasted blind, I would have guessed this to be a Linne Calodo offering. Drink now-2020.
