March 11, 2016 - Inky deep colour. Restrained nose 1h after opening (but see below). Sweet(ish) fruit - mainly berries and dark cherries with dusty tannins at first. Some oranges later. Highly extracted and very complex. Needs food (naturally). Still opening in the glass after another hour.
A sample was retained for 36h and the wine really began to show its quality. Pronounced, perfumed nose with plums. Rich, sweet palate with plums and dark berries. Integrated tannins and berry acidity with slightly bitter cherry stones and hints of tar on the end palate. This wine has years ahead of it (the winemaker says 20-25 years). The development over a day and a half after opening reinforces this. This is a great wine that should not be rushed. If you open it now, I would suggest that you do so at least 24h prior with confidence that it will improve substantially. Very expensive. 93-94
