March 28, 2024 - Acquired new. Absolutely wonderful and why we love Italian wines. I do not share the enthusiasm for a long life ahead and believe it is fully mature with fruit not as vigorous as a prior bottle last year and suggest no more than 5 years at the most.

July 12, 2023 - Opened about two hours prior to service and allowed to breathe. Two bottles were opened tonight from the same cellar and both corks showed some saturation but only through the first 1/3. No formal notes. The 1999 Flaccianello pours a youthful ruby color with a slightly garnet rim and some signs of sediment though nothing I would describe as unusual. This is an absolutely delightful Flaccianello that I would still describe as “developing”. A mix of red and dark fruits with dried herbs, black tea, espresso, leathe and dried earth. The tannins are still firm and the acid is zippy yet everything is in perfect balance and well integrated. This was paired with a deconstructed BLT highlighting the produce from local area farms and salmon rillettes with turnips, fennel and orange. I don’t have a lot of experience with Flaccianello (or Fontodi for that matter) but this is a wonderful representation of Chianti Classico (although not designated such) and if the two bottles opened tonight are representative, this vintage has a lot left in the tank! Drink now with a little air to stretch its legs and over the next 10-15 years, no cap.

July 6, 2023 - Beautiful brick color, reminiscent of a Barbaresco. Very smooth, really nice acidity and well integrated tannins. Sour cherry and plum on the palate and then leather and some mushroom. Really nice.

January 21, 2023 - First of 6 bought at auction hoping there was still some life left and man did this deliver! Brief comments to be followed (hopefully) by a proper review next bottle.

Opened at restaurant and Somm surprisingly recommended decant, properly to remove the heavy sediment that we could see through the glass. When the wine was finally poured we could smell it as it sat in the glass on the table! Profound wafts of dense dried flowers and herbs. Sticking our noses into it, it was cassis, lavender, sage and meaty - the perfect pairing with the rib eye. The acidity was solid, the tannins totally still there although we’ll integrated and the finish went on forever. I can’t wait to try this again and really spend some time contemplating it. More to come.

January 23, 2022 - Has a bit of soy on the nose along with rather muddled fruit making me wonder if this bottle is representative. Nice red cherry fruit and structure underneath.

(Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT) Bricking dark cherry color; maturing, tart cherry puree, dried cherry, dried blackberry, black cherry syrup nose; mature, black cherry, black raspberry puree, black currant palate with firm, sweet tannins; should go 20 years; long finish 95+ points

(Flaccianello) Weekend Dear Friends, I thought a celebration was in order this week (with my new addition) so I'm going big...really big. There are also a few other options of interest, all rare and all directly from the source with perfect provenance (at what should be very low prices) Have a great weekend everyone - I haven't slept in four days so I'm going to try and get some, but that's not up to me is it? For some reason, I'm not even tired... - Jon Rimmerman ************************ Friday Focus - Large With the state of the market and the economy in general, it's probably not the best day to offer this but it's a week for me to celebrate so it seems more than appropriate. With that in mind, I wish this set was $200 but it's not. It is certainly the heaviest group of wines we've ever offered and it's also one of the most memorable. The ultimate centurions, these will guard your cellar door from intruders and make for one heck of a party down the road (for 1000?). This set of perfect 12lt bottles was just released to us from the winery and only three sets exist. Stored since release at Fontodi, from what they consider to be the finest vintages of Flaccianello, this is a collector set of wines on par with few other (the secondary market value a few years down the road could be interesting as well). It took four pallets of a 747's cargo space to air-freight these to the US but it was more than worth it. An original cellar showpiece that will pop the most jaded of eyes... Flaccianello (Fontodi) 12lt bottle set (4 x 12lt) 1 x 1997 1 x 1999 1 x 2001 1 x 2004 ***************************** Other, slightly less expensive options... 2001 Oddero Barolo (DOCG) 3.0lt (Give this another ten years and you will have a party wine for the cerebral..very rare in this format) 2006 Domaine George Vernay Syrah (Rhodaniennes) STRICT LIMIT 6/person Nothing showy, just honest un-oaked Northern Rhone Syrah (from a great vintage) that wants to be Saint Joseph with the femininity of Condrieu (vinified by a white wine specialist). A medium weight, mineral-tinged, refreshing style that is only 12.0-12.5% alcohol. Tough to pass up at this price...but don't expect 100% new oak La-La's. 2005 Roblet-Monnot Bourgogne Rouge (BH87) STRICT LIMIT 6/person This is one of the better examples of Bourgogne in the 2005 vintage - considering everything was elevated in 2005, that makes this even more enticing... 2005 Roblet-Monnot Volnay Saint Francois (BH88-91) STRICT LIMIT 3/person 2005 Roblet-Monnot Volnay Santenots (BH89) STRICT LIMIT 3/person The Santenots may not be as user-friendly as the Saint Francois today, but time is on its side - will surprise in another 6-8 years. 2000 Moschioni Picolit (500ml) EXTREMELY LIMITED Insane dessert wine - one of the rarest in Europe. 2001 Moschioni Picolit (500ml) EXTREMELY LIMITED Even more insane?
