  September 5, 2022 - The wine is made with purchased Boal grapes. After 3-4 days of fermentation, the must is rectified to approx. 20% ABV with 96% ABV grape spirit to halt the fermentation. The fortified wine is transferred to old oak casks which are moved to age in Canteiros, ie. in warm warehouses in which the wines age in casks that are never topped up. 20% alcohol. Bottled in 2011, after 34 years of aging in casks, labeled as "Medium Sweet".
  
  Luminous and quite pale amber color. Sweet and concentrated nose with intense, somewhat aged aromas of Sultanas and dried dates, some caramel tones, a little bit of dusty old wood, light sweet notes of volatile lift, a hint of perfumed floral character and a touch of Christmas spices. The wine feels sweet, harmonious and quite intense on the palate with flavors of sharp lemony fruit and tart passion fruit, some aged dusty tones, a little bit of maple syrup, light oxidative notes of roasted hazelnuts, a hint of burnt sugar bitterness and a touch of Christmas spices. The high acidity lends great sense of structure and freshness to the wine. The finish is long, sharp and quite electric with rich, medium-sweet flavors of lemony citrus fruits and bruised quince, some caramel tones, a little bit of apple jam, light oxidative notes of nutty rancio, a hint of steely minerality and a touch of burnt sugar bitterness.
  
  A lovely, beautifully aged Boal with good sense of freshness and structure. However, the wine feels a bit more evolved and somewhat dusty after tasting it after the vintages 1986 and 1980, which seemed to show a bit more definition compared to this 1977. While this wine is almost identical to the other two vintages of Oliveiras Boal, I must say this wine was the least impressive of the three - but only by a tiniest margin. Still, if I had any say in the matter, I would go for 1986 or 1980 instead of this wine (and also save some money in the process, as this wine is the most expensive bottle of the three at 220€).

  October 15, 2021 - Apricot, citrus, caramel on the tongue with a dry finish. Quite a nice semi-sweet madeira (86 residual sugar).

  July 21, 2021 - Deep nose of burnt sugar and toffee. Similar notes on the palate, along with sone raisin. I’d never guess this wine was as old as I am if served blind. Drinks like a 10-20 year old Tawny Port.
