A powdered pez candy note does fight its way through, though. Taut and crisp with the usual stripped halbtrocken mouthfeel I don’t like. There’s some upfront sweetness and guava notes of no particular interest. A big hole in the middle followed by citrus pith and Bayer aspirin flavors on the finish. Not quite a winner. C.

3/23/2009 (link)(Emmrich-Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Spatlese Halbtrocken) This was lovely and actually at maturity. It surprised me as I thought this wine had the legs to fo for a bit more. Guess I will be drinking my last bottle sooner rather than later. The nose had petrol, red fruits, ginger snaps and some slatiness. The palette had great fruit which was very focused and precise, along with razor-sharp wake you up acidity and decent length. It was nice and really opened up in the mid-palette as the night went on. One thing that kept nagging me at the back of my head was that I liked this better younger.
