June 23, 2016 - Drank for our 4th year wedding anniversary
Yum -- this Italian wine has very smooth tannins with well-balanced acidity and bright red Napa fruit and spice that rounds out this rather unique varietal. It paired wonderfully with pasta in an Italian sausage, tomato, and wilted greens cream sauce.
This improved markedly over 4 hours of drinking/decanting.

May 1, 2016 - Crafted from a grape native to southern Italy, this deep ruby wine offers an engaging mix of dried cherries, loamy earth and smoked meat. Full-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (14.8%) and with plentiful sweet tannins, it stays solid on the mid-palate but is dominated by toasted oak, which extends all the way through to the medium-length finish. A lighter hand with the oak would have allowed this interesting grape to fully strut its stuff. Drink now-2020.

Teeth staining good!
Dark in color, yet almost zin like in profile, with additional tart acidity. The grape meaning of "black bitter" is appropriate, but not in a bad way.
Pair with mushroom dish.

February 26, 2016 - Dark and intense, with a hint of spiciness. Not my preferred varietal, but I love this winemaker and they have done a very good job here.
